The Attack on Titan story concluded recently, but the manga has been far ahead of its anime adaptation for several chapters now. In fact, the so-called Final Season of the series is still in progress, but there was very little information regarding the history & origin of the Titans until chapter 122 was released, the last of Volume 30.

Titled "From You, 2,000 Years Ago," the chapter takes readers into the life of Ymir Fritz, the founder of the Eldian line & the first inheritor of the power of the Titans. As such, it is one of the most important in the entire story because it clarifies, khổng lồ a point, why Titans exist — although not what they are.
A rather brutal flashback sequence depicts the origins of Ymir, who is initially shown khổng lồ be captured by the predecessors of the Eldian kingdom. After her trang chủ is burned down & everyone in her life tortured and murdered, Ymir is enslaved by a man, presumably a warlord.
Despite her trying her best lớn remain invisible & carry on with her day, the little girl is blamed by the other slaves for letting "a pig get away," earning the wrath of her owner.

Without delving too deep into spoiler territory, this entity is referred to as Yukibutsu no Kigen, or Source of All Living Matter. Zeke Jaeger states that it is one of the infinite "countless masses of unknown things" that existed on primordial Earth & "eventually survived." How the Source of All Living Matter translates into Titans is another story.

The Eldian warlord eventually becomes as powerful as a king, having had Ymir bởi all sorts of menial labor in her Titan form. This includes building roads, cultivating wastelands, & bridging the mountains, allowing the Eldians to grow & prosper.
